Research Team Overview

Koch Family Medicine offers clinical trial services to the Greater Peoria Area, including Peoria, Bloomington, and Morton.  The greatest benefit of incorporating a clinical research team into our family medicine practice is the ability it gives us to offer our patients a potential solution to their general medical needs when there is not another solution available. Our team has experience with research studies, phases I, II, III, and IV, in all areas related to family medicine such as COVID-19, Influenza, RSV, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, IBS, arthritis, dementia, and many others. As part of a family medicine practice, many of the patients that we work with in clinical research have already built strong relationships with our team, including the PI's and CRC's. These relationships help ensure excellent compliance and retention throughout the study.

Experts at Point of Care Testing

As a Primary Care family practice, our patients often depend on us to provide excellent diagnostic services during their office visits. Our research team has dedicated research coordinators that specialize in helping with research studies for new In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) devices that can be used in either a Point of Care setting or for At-Home Use. For devices that are being approved for At-Home Use, we have a room set up as a Simulated-Home Environment so that patients are comfortable and can test the device as they would do at their own home.
Our expertise in these diagnostic device studies allow us to be extremely efficient and we have repeatedly proven to be a high enrolling site for these studies.

High Enrolling Partner for Healthy-Person Studies

Our site has a proven track-record for high enrollment in healthy-person studies. Koch Family Medicine has been helping with clinical research studies since its inception in 2000. For the past 23 years, Koch Family Medicine patients have been introduced to the global benefits of participating in clinical trials and are often very receptive to helping with any studies that they qualify for. Because of this, Koch Family Medicine can recruit very quickly for high-enrolling healthy-person studies. We can also often recruit a large number of subjects for healthy-person studies from the local universities in Peoria and Bloomington.

Dr. Stanley Koch, MD, Principal Investigator

He is on Medical Staff at Unity Point and OSF Hospitals. He is an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and a Clinical Instructor at the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Special interests include Preventative Care, Sports Medicine, Medical Research, Geriatrics including Medical Directorships of Nursing Homes, Hospice Care, and Facilities for Developmentally Disabled.
Dr. Koch has worked in clinical research as a Principal Investigator for more than 30 years. He has been PI in more than 60 clinical trials in a variety of indications related to family medicine such as COVID-19, Influenza, RSV, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, IBS, and many others.

Dr. Mary Imig, DO, Principal Investigator

Dr. Mary (Koch) Imig graduated from Olivet Nazarene University where she competed on the Track and Field Team. She received her medical degree from Rocky Vista University in Denver, CO. She completed her family medicine residency at the University of Illinois - UnityPoint Health in Peoria where she served as Chief Resident during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is double boarded by both the MD and DO family medicine associations. Dr. Imig's special interests include caring for the whole family, osteopathic manipulations, sports medicine, dermatologic procedures, women’s health and preventative medicine.
Dr. Imig started as a Principal Investigator on our team in 2021, but she is by no means new to clinical research. Dr. Imig is Dr. Koch's daughter. As Dr. Imig grew up watching her father conduct clinical trials, she was always interested in helping patients find new solutions to their medical needs.

Brian Willoughby, Site Director

Brian's route to being a clinical research Site Director is far from the normal path. Brian has an engineering degree and started his professional career as a mechanical engineer working for a company that designed equipment to help with manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry. He quickly transitioned into a Project Manager role where organization, excellent communication, and a high attention to detail were required to navigate the regulatory challenges of the pharmaceutical industry and to ensure the clients were satisfied. The skills Brian developed as a Project Manager have transitioned perfectly into the role of Site Director for our clinical research studies. Brian knows what it takes to keep documentation organized and to communicate efficiently and effectively with Sponsors and CRO's.
